November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. Earlier this year, I was interviewed by host Steve Washuta, author of Fitness Business 101 and co-founder of TrulyFit Podcast. His show discusses health & fitness with experts on optimizing health & wealth. We discussed the misinformation presented to patients regarding their health, especially when discussing type 2 diabetes. There is a shared responsibility between corporations and the medical community to correct this situation.
Steve asked me about my thoughts on sugar substitutes and artificial sweeteners and why I do not recommend consuming them. We talked about your authentic weight and how by following your own brain, you can learn to eat correctly for your body, lose weight and prevent lifestyle diseases. I suggest that you find out what your normal fasting blood glucose is, and your normal fasting cholesterol, rather than following the Body Mass Index.
40% of the cholesterol in the body is used to insulate the skin, protecting you both from heat stroke and frostbite, and cholesterol does not enter the body just from animal products. Along with misconceptions of “good” and “bad” cholesterol, many people do not know the importance of cholesterol in the body. Every cell needs cholesterol to build cell walls. In the podcast, I say I believe taking cholesterol blockers, such as Lipitor, in the long run, can be a dangerous choice.
Lastly, we discussed the many possible variables to the causation of cancer which also presents itself as yet another complication for the survival of the type 2 diabetes patient.
For the last 7 years, I have been spreading the message that the insulin resistance theory is illogical. If you are a type 2 diabetic, by changing your food choices, you can take control of your blood sugar without using medications such as insulin. Take charge of your own health!
In 2020, there were over 122 million people in the U.S. diagnosed with elevated blood glucose, 34 million with the diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes, and 88 million diagnosed with prediabetes, yet their hope for healthy living is thwarted by medical dogma, disinformation, misinformation, and missing information.
Disinformation, Misinformation, and Missing Information, which is abbreviated “DMMI”, fuels growing health illiteracy and unhealthy lifestyle choices. This drives not only increases in Type 2 diabetes but also cancer, cardiovascular diseases, COVID-19, and other illnesses considered lifestyle diseases.
As described in my 5th book, Your Health Is at Risk, a literate person in today’s world is aware that the traditional media and social media are swarming with intentional disinformation about many topics, from politics to finances, to health advice and diet plans. Literacy, critical thinking, and a tolerance for reading scientific material are absolutely necessary to detect such disinformation.
